Who this is for
Anyone who uses (or plans to use) one of claude.ai, chatgpt.com, gemini.google.com, or grok.com and keeps hearing new product names. Names on this page were checked on September 26, 2026. They change often — the rule from CA-1 doesn't.
The emergency brake
- An upgrade panel popped up (“Try Pro,” “Unlock Work”)? Click the X or “Stay on free.” No core lesson needs a paid plan.
- Closed a tab by mistake? Ctrl+Shift+T (Mac: Cmd+Shift+T) brings it back.

Every big company now has the same three kinds of tool. Only the names differ.
| Company | Chat — talks back | Agent — does tasks in your files, browser, apps | Code agent — for people who write software | Makes pictures, video, little apps |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Anthropic | Claude at claude.ai · free tier |
Claude Cowork · paid plans only. Being merged into “one Claude”: no switch — Claude decides when your ask becomes a task. | Claude Code | Claude Design (beta, paid) |
| OpenAI | ChatGPT (Chat) at chatgpt.com · free tier |
ChatGPT Work · paid on web and phone; on every plan, including Free, in the new ChatGPT desktop app. Replaced the old “agent mode.” | Codex · a separate view in the ChatGPT desktop app | Pictures in chat; Sites (beta) |
Gemini at gemini.google.com |
Gemini Spark · experimental, top plan (Google AI Ultra) only, 18+, some countries. You'd click “Switch to Spark.” | Google Antigravity (incl. Antigravity CLI) · Jules | Not covered here | |
| SpaceXAI (was xAI) | Grok at grok.com · free tier |
Grok Bot · a separate app, paid only | Grok Build CLI | Grok Imagine (pictures and video) · Grok Build in chat builds little apps and sites — and can publish them to the internet |
Two name traps: on Grok, “Video” isn't its own product — it's part of Imagine; and “Build” means two things — the in-chat app maker and the terminal tool.

Circle the one company you use. On the worksheet, write:
- My chat is called ___ and I open it at ___.
- Its agent is called ___. Is it on my plan? yes / no / not sure
- Its code agent is called ___. Do I write code? yes / no
My chat is called Claude · I open it at claude.ai
Its agent is called Claude Cowork · On my plan? No, I'm on free. (Free is chat only.)
Its code agent is called Claude Code · Do I write code? No.
Yours may name a different company. Check it has the same parts: three names, one “on my plan?”, one “do I write code?”
Look, don't click
About 5 min
- Open your chat site by typing its address (the First Chat habit — no search, no ad).
- Without clicking anything new, look for a switch or tab named Work, Cowork, Spark, Agent, Codex, or Code.
- Write saw it or didn't see it. Either answer is fine.
Try this
Find the chat box and the New chat button — and nothing else.
You should see: your normal chat page. On free Claude, or on the new “one Claude,” there may be no switch at all. That's normal — CA-3 shows the other signs to watch.
Success check
- Three names written for my company
- I know whether my plan includes the agent
- I looked at the page without clicking anything new
Don't buy / get help
Don't upgrade to “get” the agent column. For messages, letters, and forms, the chat column is the whole job. If your screen looks nothing like this map, the company changed it again — book a human rather than guessing.
Don't guess passwords or dig through billing pages alone. Book a free 15-minute consult and we'll check it together.
