PH-04 · The Paper in Your Hand

Your Next Step Comes From the Paper

One next step is written where you'll see it. Any call or website uses what's printed on the paper, not what the chat said.

10 min Needs: PH-03 · checked answer Outcome: a next step you can see tomorrow

Who this is for

You can point at every date and dollar that survived PH-03. This lesson gets that one fact out of the chat and onto a sticky note or your paper calendar. Then the lesson is closed until the next green paper arrives.

The emergency brake

  • The chat offered a phone number or a link? Don't use it. Use only what is printed on your paper.
  • Still unclear after you read the paper? Call the number printed on the paper, or type the website printed on the paper into the address bar.
  • Shared computer? Click your initial or picture → Log out / Sign out, then close the browser.

Write one line where you'll see it

About 4 min

  1. Take a sticky note or open your paper calendar.
  2. Write one line: what, when. Use only words you found on the paper.
  3. Put the note where you'll see it — the fridge, the bill stack, the calendar square.
Worked example — on the sticky note

Recycling → THURSDAY by 6 a.m., starting Nov 3

Your note will be worded differently. That's normal. Check it has the same parts: the task and the time, both from the paper.

Try this

Read the sticky note out loud, then point at those same words on the paper.

You should see: one short line, in a place you'll pass tomorrow. No phone number unless it is printed on the paper.

Use the paper's own number

About 4 min

Still unclear? Call the number printed on the paper, or type the website printed on the paper into the address bar. Never a number or link the chat gave you.

What not to use

If you ask the chat What number do I call with questions? and it gives you one, don't use it. The sample notice says “the number on the back of this notice.” Use that one.

Don't

Search for a phone number and click the first result. The address bar gets only an address that is printed on your paper.

Undo: you already wrote down a number from the chat? Cross it out. Copy the number from the paper.

Close the lesson

About 2 min

  1. Need to reply to the letter? Go to Message, MS-01, and start with the stop check.
  2. Come back when the next green paper arrives. You don't redo this page for practice.
  3. On a shared computer, log out before you leave.

This week

One real green paper: you can point to every date and dollar on the page, your next step is written where you'll see it, and any call used the number printed on the paper.

Optional — a pile of green flyers, not this one letter

PH-05 turns a few green notes into one list by day for the fridge. It is optional. It is not for meals, and it is not a second pass on a red paper.

Success check

  • Next step is written down where I'll see it
  • Any call or site came from the paper itself

Common failure modes

What happenedWhat to do
The chat named a website that isn't on the paperDon't open it. If the paper has no site, call the printed number or ask a person.
The sticky note picked up a crossed-out fineRewrite the note from the paper only.
You need to answer the letter, not just understand itStop here and open Message, MS-01.

Stop line

A letter the chat writes is not advice about your rights. For a lease, school, airline, or town rule, open the page printed on your paper or call the office.

Brake: Stop · New chat · shared computer → Log out.

The paper still doesn't say what to do?

That's allowed. MISSING means you call the number on the paper, or you ask a person. You don't ask the chat to invent the missing part.
