This lesson is optional
Do this only after one easy message has gone well. You have already completed the core track after MS-05.
Do the MS-01 stop check again
- No court, custody, eviction, immigration, or lawyer letters.
- No firing or disciplining someone.
- No health details.
- No claims about laws or what you are “entitled to.”
- No money you cannot get back.
- No grief or big family news.
Use the same steps with one extra line
About 15 min
- On paper, write who it is for, the one thing you need, and your rough words.
- Follow MS-02, but add:
Firm but friendly. No threats. - For an apology, say what you are apologizing for. Do not let the chat invent an excuse.
- For a complaint, use a dollar amount only if it is printed on your bill.
- Check every fact, change three parts, and read it aloud.
- Copy it out of the chat into Notes. Clean it, add real names there, and send it yourself.
Help me say no politely to a request. Firm but friendly. No excuses I did not give. Plain words, 3 short lines. --- i cant run the bake sale this year, too much going on, happy to bake one tray ---
Thanks for thinking of me for the bake sale.
I can’t run it this year, but I’m happy to bake one tray.
Let me know what day you need it.
Your answer will be worded differently. That’s normal. Check it has the same parts: a clear no, the one offer you made, and no invented excuse.
Try this
Read your note aloud in a calm voice. Remove any threat, legal claim, or excuse that was not on your paper.
You should hear: a clear boundary or concern, without picking a fight.
Complaints are where made-up laws and dollar amounts creep in. If your note needs “the law says,” stop. That is stop card 3.

Success check
- I redid the stop check
- The note is firm and calm, with no threats
- Every fact came from my paper or, for an amount, my bill
- I copied it out, cleaned it, and sent it myself
Stop line
If your complaint needs “the law says,” it is stop card 3. Close the chat and get a person who knows that kind of problem.
Brake line: Close the chat and finish by hand. You do not owe anyone a perfect message.
If you are angry, frightened, or unsure what the message could change, save it in Notes and ask a person before sending.
