The finish line
Copy the draft out of the chat. Real names are added outside the chat. The chat never sends, connects to your account, or gets your email password. You press Send.
Copy the draft into Notes
About 5 min
- Click the copy button under the answer. It often looks like two overlapping squares. If there is no copy button, select the draft and press Ctrl+C (Windows) or Cmd+C (Mac).
- Open Notepad on Windows or Notes on Mac.
- Paste with Ctrl+V or Cmd+V.
Clean it outside the chat
About 5 min
- Delete any
**or#symbols. - Delete “Here’s a draft:” at the top.
- Delete “Let me know if you’d like changes!” at the bottom.
- Replace [Landlord] and [Your name] with real names here in Notes — never in the chat.
Here’s a polished version:
**Hi [Landlord],**
The kitchen faucet has been dripping for about two weeks and it’s getting worse.
Could someone come take a look this week? I’m home any day after 4 p.m.
Thanks, [Your name]
Let me know if you’d like any changes!

Your message will be worded differently. That’s normal. Check it has no stray symbols or chat chatter, and the real names were added only in Notes.
Send it your way
About 5 min
- Email: copy from Notes, switch to your email tab, paste into a new message, check the To line, then click Send yourself.
- Text: keep it short and type it on your phone while reading from Notes.
- Letter: copy it by hand.
- Not ready for email: leave it in Notes and line up a person to help send it.
If the chat offers to send, email, or “connect your account,” say no and close the offer.

Success check
- No stray symbols or chat chatter remain
- Real names were added in Notes, not in the chat
- I pressed Send myself, or the draft is in Notes with a helper lined up
Stop line
If the chat offers to connect to your email or send the message, say no and close the offer. Never give it your email password.
Brake line: Pasted in the wrong place? Ctrl/Cmd+Z undoes it. Sent too soon? Many email sites show Undo for a few seconds. On a shared computer, log out of both the chat and email.
That is a separate computer skill. Save the clean draft in Notes and ask a person to help you send it.
